Aschheim/München, September 29, 2026

From 1 October, ju:niz Energy’s large-scale battery storage system SMAREG 14 will be marketed by Next Kraftwerke under a seven-year tolling agreement. The facility has a power output of 10 MW and an energy capacity of 20 MWh.
This is ju:niz Energy’s second tolling agreement in collaboration with Next Kraftwerke and Shell Energy Europe. Since the end of 2025, Next Kraftwerke has also been optimizing the SMAREG 12 battery storage system in the short-term and balancing energy markets, while taking on balance group responsibility.
The contract model offered by Next Kraftwerke in cooperation with Shell Energy Europe Limited provides predictable revenues through fixed remuneration. At the same time, part of the capacity is linked to developments in the energy markets, enabling participation in market opportunities.
“With the start of marketing, we have reached an important milestone for SMAREG 14. Our focus is now on safe and reliable operations, as well as the long-term optimization of the facility,” says Nikolaus Mainka, CFO of ju:niz Energy.
“With SMAREG 14, we are deepening our collaboration with ju:niz Energy and further expanding our expertise in marketing battery storage systems,” says Marc Rühs, CEO of Next Kraftwerke.
The start of marketing marks the next phase in SMAREG 14’s long-term operation. ju:niz’s focus is on safe and reliable operations and the long-term optimization of the facility.
About ju:niz Energy
Since 2014, ju:niz Energy GmbH has been developing, implementing, and operating battery storage systems that safely integrate renewable energy into the power grid and make it flexibly available. The company covers the entire value chain—from site analysis and technical design to implementation and long-term operation. The result is battery storage systems that are cost-effective, reliable, and designed for long-term use.
In addition to its own projects, ju:niz Energy pursues a co-development approach. Under this approach, the company participates in ongoing energy storage projects, contributing capital, technical expertise, and operational know-how, and continues to develop these projects together with its project partners through commissioning and beyond. With this approach, ju:niz Energy accelerates the implementation of battery storage systems and makes an important contribution to the energy transition and the stability of the power grids.
